Agreed. Just the fact that you feel that strongly about something from the story is a good thing in my book.
Especially when you consider that we don't really see how Lawrence reacted anyway. The episode ends just before where he would react, and the next one starts with him being roused from a nightmare by Holo. For all we know, he did say no, but Abe persuaded him to at least sleep on it (I doubt it, though. I suppose I'll find out when volume 5 is translated). |

But sensibilities of the time isn't really relevant, as it's not slavery per se that is the point, but the fact that it's about playing around the sale of his girlfriend. Regardless of the time, love is love ^^ |

I know a lot of people dwell on the fact that he even slept on it and let Holo know about it. But it's absurd - it's irrational to be angry at Lawrence for something Holo did to herself in order to leave him. The twist in this plot is that *he* is the victim, even though Holo is the one being pawned off. Which is why I like seeing how the novels are interpreted by others (almost as much as the novels themselves). I like knowing how others react because I'm a weirdo who probably doesn't react like most people would |

I must say, I happened upon this anime only two days ago. I was itching for something interesting to watch and I just remembered the name of this anime from a poster. Nevertheless I've watched s1+ s2 in the past 48 hours. My ONLY disappointed is that there is no more for me to enjoy. In fact, I happened upon this forum only in the midst of searching for information about the light novels that I so dearly desire, however enough dabble...
Let me start by stating I am INCREDIBLY wary of any anime spouting a character with animal like features as a main character. I/E Furry. Most, not all, but most seem to elicit the viewers whose intentions are to simple drool over the characters features whithout engaging in any deep story elements or plot twists, that and the much more wily ones that could be justifiable as "soft porn" with the gratuity. I was however taken from the very first episode by the amount of thought put in these characters, that you're attention is taken not only by their emotions but meager play. Seriously, just the small dabble Lawrence and Horo have could entertain me for years. They always have something interesting to say, and as they progress in the story, they always take in account past motives and experiences. This Anime has surpassed my expectations and honestly stolen my heart, as I am a little wuss for romance, (not the cheapo ones). But the depth of these characters as well as the dilemma that they face just keep you glued. Another thing, is that they honestly took out what I HATE about 75% of anime. But to be clear I'll state what I LIKE about it so far. #1: The character is a Maturing 25 year old man, Def relatable to older audiences, I am 20, I am out of the phase where 14 year olds going on mass adventures are new and exciting. #2: Mature themes are handled MATURELY, Not half an episode went by before you (not really) see horo in the stark. I was overjoyed at the lack of bleeding noses and overexerted expressions. #3: The Love isn't two dimensional, The OBVIOUS issue between them is well.. OBVIOUS, I won't spoil it however it's apparent 10 seconds in the anime. Besides that there are their own small personal issues that need to be dealt with, as well as other possible/past) love interests. Each episode gives you insight on how the relationship is, and what most SHOULD be, is built. Trust, understanding, respect, insight, a sense of reality, and a sense of excitement. I honestly LOVE the later themes that actually occur IRL, (such as waning interest over time, and the OTHER OBVIOUS thing) it's not just; "Oh, you like me?! But I like her! and she likes HIM! oh crap! Wait! LOVE WILL FIND A WAY THROUGH ALL ADVERSITY CHYAAH!" This Anime is one that I could truly enjoyed, I simply cannot wait for these guys to start thinking or finishing S3, I need to find English translations of the Novels! So with that I urge anyone who is into some nice fantasy/romance thats more than horribly placed ecchi, This should be you're first stop. |

s2 is great too even that the second part is boring a bit
Last episodes made me depressed for a long time. I started to read light novels and I was pissed that there are only few volumes translated . So spice and wolf made me to learn Japanese and its much more easy than to learn Enshlish as second language. |

Having it watched recently it I thought it was great overall.
Story wise the first arc of this season was probably the best part of the series so far, while the last arc felt just barely above the first arc of the series [which I thought was the weakest.] Music wise: The OP was about as good as the first one, which I did like very well and ED was better than the first, and most of the back music was good and fitting. Animation Wise: was very good, nothing I could complain about anyways. Characters: Honestly the interaction between Lawerence and Holo did make the show for me in both seasons . Really only thing I can complain about is there not being a third season yet .

Well, I just noticed that funimation has made the subbed episodes of Season II available on youtube and hulu meaning we are ever closer to the DVD release, which to my knowledge has not had a release date announced, though we know it will be this "spring".
The bad news... NO EPISODE 0 and neither of the short videos feature Holo also no pre-orders anywhere of good repute that I have seen! That DVD had better have Episode 0 and those two short videos with Holo exercising and talking about food and drink... and text-free version of the ED for Episode 12!

This might sound funny, but I hope the DVD has the original, TV cut of the last episode as well.
Not sure whats up with the pan I've seen in the BR rip copy, but it does hurt that scene, and looks really 'fake'/synthetic. I doubt I'm going to be in luck and it'll be the 'tweaked' version, but I honestly don't know why they changed it. The other tweaks I noticed are minor (watching the two vids side by side, just minor changes in facial expression/animation frames etc) but that pan is a doozy.

That edit kind of surprised me... I will be watching these like a hawk once they are released to dissect the episodes to see if they match the original TV release, Nih. DVD, or are a totally new edit!

I'm late to the party. SW1 came out on Netflix last month, saw it, Then saw 2 on Hulu. I really liked it and the first season. The second season is deeper and for a mature audience. The dialogue between Lawrence and Holo is the main attraction. The way it progressed was great drama. I followed each episode's discussion thread where the theories were very deep. I had to keep in mind the most simple explanation is probably the best explanation though, plus I think people are hung up on the english translation, which I suppose may not be truly accurate and truly capture the essence of the Japanese language and way of thinking. I thought S&W is very Japanese thinking. Men don't express themselves like Romeo. Love is an understanding not a proclamation. Holo alludes to all these things and more while Lawrence unfolds them
I only base this on my limited experience in Japan and the interacting with Japanese friends, watching alot of old classics both in film and anime, etc etc. It will be interesting when the English dub comes out and hopefully they translate it well. |

I didn't want to start a new thread inappropriately, but BIG NEWS... while not officially posted on the release schedule on Funimation, Season II is available for Preorder on Rightstuf!
AND, it is available in Blu-ray!!! http://www.rightstuf.com/cgi-bin/cat...em/91991/4/0/0 http://www.rightstuf.com/cgi-bin/cat...em/91990/4/0/0 ... as is Season I! http://www.rightstuf.com/cgi-bin/cat...em/91992/4/0/0 I am happy to see it get this treatment, but I hate the lack of box continuity since it appears Season II will be a combo pack.

Do note that there is a limited and standard release of Season II. What makes it limited, I do not know.
But, because it pertains to Holo, I am shilling out money for all these new sets that are scheduled for release!

The only thing stopping me preordering since I heard a few days ago is me trying to save cash for a holiday next month. Glad its finally going to be available, hopefully there will be a 5.1 Jp audio mix. I run a reasonably good setup and I did miss 5.1 on the DVD.
Will be my 3rd legit copy of S1 haha (got both DVD releases) Wonder if the BDs will be region AB or just A? Our release schedule is pretty cack in Europe, we havent got S&W on DVD yet without import or fansubs, both of which technically break one law or another.
