Looks like this series is getting published with Red Rising Books, first volume coming out in May.
The artist is 誉, who apparently did art for 俺が淫魔術で奴隷ハーレムを作る話.
I like his art style. Looks like the girl characters are going to be particularly...something.

Latest chapter was also not bad.
Nothing goes the protagonist's way. Like at all.

Yeah, I didn't think what he was trying was going to work. At least he tried.

He worked well on becoming stronger. He's good at using his head, but he's still behind most of the other characters. At least his abilities have more variety. It makes the story more interesting that way.

Luck decided to screw him as per usual.

He came across the delinquent guy who had his best friend beat him up and take his shit early on.
So the protagonist pretended to cooperate because he wanted to kill the guy since they were having trouble with the boss.

Protag ambushes the guy (a thief class) but fails due to what basically amounts to luck.
Thief had just learned a skill to escape rope and bindings and the like, so the protagonist's Black Hair Binding spell didn't work.
Thief was apparently planning on killing him from the start, so the protag ambushing plan itself wasn't bad. It was really just luck and execution that fucked him over.

Thief had used his thief class skill of detecting traps to find one to use on the protag, as well as has someway of reading the ancient language in the dungeon to learn that the trap requires a sacrifice to activate a teleporter.
So he figured since his three party members can't beat the boss he'll just sacrifice the useless witch doctor.

Protag manages to avoid falling into the pitfall with his golem for a moment before Thief just knocks the golem in too, but his best friend who had betrayed him before decided to grow a heart (and some balls) and grab the golem to keep them up.
So Thief kills best friend and shoves his corpse (still holding on to golem after death) together with the protag into the pit.



You might think that the gods are assholes for giving Thief a seemingly useless ability (since you generally don't get tied up to begin with) right before the protag decided to attack him, but it's kind of mutual.
Protag got a poison resist skill just before a poison/acid cloud would have killed him during the previous boss and all.

I do find it interesting that all the characters with an actual drive to survive and whatnot tend to have higher luck.
Like we see characters who are too afraid to fight or screw around a lot in what's basically escapism die readily when the people who accept the new environment turn out to be stupidly hard to kill.
Of course there are exceptions, like the hero guy's best friend who died fighting (so that the girls with him could join the hero to form the harem party and he get promptly forgotten about; Hero hasn't even been around a guy for more than 5 minutes so far) and that archer girl.

Like the protag's friend was apparently a warrior who was overall to afraid to fight and thus couldn't.
Where normally a thief would have no way of beating a warrior in a straight fight.


Protag also needs to use his goddamn fever spell more.
Low intellect beasts where the effect hasn't been so great aside, it's probably way more effective against humans.
Lower judgement ability, maybe prevent mental passives like Thief's detect trap/danger skill. Maybe prevent him from using the escape rope skill quickly, etc.

Oh well. I think it said/hinted early on that the bad shit he goes through will make him stronger due to being a witch doctor or whatever.
So him barely surviving yet another ordeal from others being assholes could also be fate/luck to an extent.

Thief's also now down to 2 party members though. Thief isn't the best melee fighter (not bad, though) and the other one is a caster, so they might run into further troubles due to that.

The protagonist (assuming that's him) doesn't look nearly as girly or short as I thought he would.
I suppose it amounts to perspective and other characters for comparison, though.
He looks effeminate and wimpy, but not enough for me to think he could possibly be a girl.

The heroine looks quite a bit different from how I imagined too.
She's not as fat as I thought she'd be, and her boobs seem kind of underwhelming given they're supposed to be the biggest in class and how big a deal the protagonist makes of them.
Her face isn't bad at all which fits how the protagonist described her, and she does have a pretty nice crazy (yandere) gaze.
Like the protagonist, it's also kinda hard to tell how tall she is from this perspective. Supposed to be super tall and all.

The official title translation is likely going to be one of those ones no one ever uses.
Not only is thaumaturge hilarious as a word, it doesn't even accurately describe what he is. No maliciousness to it at all.
Not to mention the word "brave". The only time I've liked the use of the word in this sense was in Final Fantasy Tactics. Hero typically works much better for yuusha.


Oh yeah, and the latest chapter was pretty good.
The author does really good at giving your usual cannon fodder delinquent a human personality.
Protagonist is kind of fucked if Reina decides she wants to anything though, since he's like literally unable to do shit at the moment from the fight.

But yeah, he's totally dead or at least hit the bottom.
Since the gate didn't activate when Momokawa or his friend was falling halfway.
Plus he was 90% dead before even falling in the hole. Only way we're seeing him again is either through undead crap or if that one guy finds his corpse, eats it, and gains his skills.

Yeah, the new girl doesn't seem that bad yet. And the protag is a boob man (hah).
She didn't seem to be fawning over Ryuuichi unlike the two literally nameless mob girls, and was the only one who invited the protag to join them even if it was rather disinterestedly.
Going by how there were rumors of her going out with Higuchi, I figured she'd be a bit more of a heartless bitch. Or just plain slutty (which she still could be).

Oh well, still plenty of time to become one since Momokawa has zero luck with party members.
Reina will likely meet up with the hero and tell him all about how Momokawa killed Higuchi and how she was so scared or whatever.
Depending on how she words it, Mei might break her neck, though. Granted the hero will likely stop her.

Also curious about how Momokawa will go about making Rem since that was kind of an issue with the last party.
Granted none of the girls seem as much as neat-freaks as the last one. Plus they seem more of a cheering squad since Ryuuichi seemed like he was soloing everything.
Want to know if Rem got to keep his friend's warrior skills even without his body too. Since the learning thing was supposed to be Rem's "cheat" even if s/he hasn't shown it at all yet.

I decided to give this series a go and read the translations. I had been rather hesitant about it since I'm not a fan of grim-dark. Fortunately however, this series has enough humour etc that it's mostly enjoyable. The comments from the author are both very interesting and also quite amusing at times.

Maybe there's something in the untranslated raws but I'm surprised that the students are not more openly suspicious towards the helpful hints they get from outside. Also, it seems everyone has assumed that only 3 people will be able to escape - it's quite possible that the transport system can be used multiple times (I don't see why not unless it doesn't reset until the next bunch of luckless students are transported in).

Yep, I'm translating "kumo desu ga, nani ka". I can't take too much credit for being up to date since when I started the translation were only just behind and then the author slowed down a lot. One downside of being up to date is the pressure to get translations out ASAP when a new chapter comes out

There's a couple of interesting shared elements between the two series, such as whole class in a fantasy world, survival, weak to strong, alt MC is a hero (with a clingy sister)... but overall the two series feel very different. Whole class transfer/reincarnation was more popular a few years ago it seems.

Of the just translated chapters, perhaps the most interesting one was the one from berserker-chan's POV. Feel the love

Because of this author, everything the Gal was doing could have been considered a death flag.
The good part is the Death Flag delivered on the MC — meaning he'll survive, after some suffering.
The comments for the whole arc have just been people concerned over the Gal somehow dying brutally.

Now all she has to do is turn Yandere somewhere and she's completely safe.
She gave him a kiss, which might work with his Black Blood (the thing that probably made Mei yandere). But that is kinda pushing it.
Not like we'll get to see though, since he got kidnapped by a Spider and odds are the only one who will actually give a shit is her; the other two gals aside, I can't see the yankee giving a fuck. Which since he won't, the two gals probably won't either.

I do wonder what Rem's going to do, having been left behind with that group when her master's been abducted by a spider.
I suppose his poison resistance skill is paying itself in gold though. First it saved him from the poison swamp, then (likely) from this spider bite.

I thought the web kidnapping at first was that fat yandere otaku after him. Was maybe(?) pleasantly surprised at it just being a random encounter?
Not that it'd be too far-fetched to imagine that the tower would house some sort of mob/boss.

Regarding "death flags" in general - well, the way this series has been going there's not really anybody safe. Half the time the MC simply meeting someone is a death flag (though to be fair we see plenty of deaths outside of the MC's viewpoint too)

But indeed, not all death flags are equal and a kiss on the cheek feels like a big neon death flag in the series... unless she goes yandere. It's a strange world where yanderes seem to be "safe"...

I agree that a kiss on the cheek is unlikely to trigger Black Blood but consider the following scenario: MC gets saved by the current group and the Gal notices he's been bitten and possibly poisoned so considers sucking the blood out to help (I don't think she knows he has poison resistance). If such a thought occurs to her I think she would be reasonably likely to actually do it given how she's treated the MC so far. If she actually does such a thing she's almost certainly ingest some blood. She might even find it hard to resist. Cue yandere route?

With regards to the yankee bothering to save the MC, I think the chances of that are better than what the MC has been thinking, due to the yankee's "king" vocation. After all, a king needs subjects, right? And the MC has definitely made himself useful without being a "threat". The spider might not that be too hard/bothersome to kill since it would have taken damage from the MC's Pain Return and I think it would require someone on the scene to save the MC as well. Maybe the yankee will go help without prompting or maybe the Gal will go first and the yankee will follow while dropping some tsundere lines. Maybe the MC will guess the yankee's vocation based on his attitude afterwards.

It would be interesting to see a party consisting of the MC, Mei-chan and the Gal. Warrior + support + mage would be a nice three party combo for this dungeon. Hopefully Mei-chan isn't too possessive and would support a "harem". Considering that the Gal has been going through a similar route to Mei-chan (though not so brutal so far) I think that would be reasonably likely.

Man, I really can relate to Momokawa as a protagonist.
He's just so easy to understand without all the stupid shit in the way.
Him having his own opinions and personality really helps too, even if he's more on the objective and logical side of things.

Spoiler for Recent antagonist:

Momo finally resolves to kill his second classmate due to killing yet another friend of his (or more like friend to the whole class), which all things considering seems pretty hard for him.
Like he's ruthless against the cannibal classmate but that only goes as far to drive him away and doesn't actively want to hunt him.

The situation is very different from the first time as well.
The first time, the only real course of action he had was to fight for survival. Even if he could have avoided giving the finishing blow, him not doing so was far safer considering his opponent.

This time he's already ran away from the classmate—who he considers a NEET—who more than likely won't try to chase him. So Momokawa is going on the offensive this time out of choice rather than necessity.
She's been a thorn to the protagonist every time they've met and is hard to call a good person despite not trying to be a bad one.

Issues with killing her are, of course, the difference in power as she's much stronger than Momo as a spirit tamer.
Otherwise, she's also considered one of the hero boy's 'harem members,' her covering the blonde loli position where her mental age seems much lower than her actual age, with her body following suit in that.
This makes her selfish, shallow, fearful, and prone to emotional outbursts that endanger everyone near her. Like even in the event that caused her to kill the classmate mentioned above, she was actually trying to kill Momokawa is a childish fit of calling him a liar (when he wasn't actually lying).
The biggest problem might even be the relationship with the hero, since he seems prone to showing up to save the day when his harem is in actual danger. As unlikely as it seems.

Momokawa also recently got two new spells that have yet to be clarified on, so it's pretty much up to those to see how this goes.
His class also relies heavily on preparation, which he's recently been running out of resources, so he needs to stock up somehow in area where there's almost nothing.
The protagonist resolving to kill her is simply because, as he notes to himself, is that he's angry about her killing his friend, and basically made his death in vain on top of it. He covered for Momokawa (because he was into traps, although this never got explicit stated) and even had an emotional last words scene.
This kind of resolve to actually hate someone seems to be important to his growth as a Witch Doctor as well, according to his god. You know, hate with a reason compared to one without.

The rest of the party likes the loli girl—Reina—simply because she's a super bishoujo and have so far been pampering her just because of that.
She's been uncooperative in that she literally never tries to help, she's actually been a menace in that she'll even attack allies who become too 'scary,' and she pretty much expects preferential treatment for no reason.
While the rest of the party is also sad at their classmate's death, none of them seem the type to try to get revenge on Reina like Momokawa's decided to do, so that will be fun.

Of course I hope he succeeds. It's not every day you get to see a super bishoujo loli become an enemy and get killed by the protagonist without joining the heroine list or some shit.
Plus the author writes pretty relatable villains, ranging from people simply giving it their all to survive to hysterical girls to simply people who have caved under the extreme situation they're in.

Author writes fun scenarios and keeps the plot rolling.
Gotta like it.
