ok... that's not very good news. How far did the first season stop compared to the manga? Is the available story that short?

First "season" only covered a third of what's currently out. I'd assume this is for arc pacing purposes.

I'm ok with the 12 episodes unless they decide to make us wait another 4 years for season 3..lol. I highly doubt that! No one is this troll. AoT is one of those titles that was able to drive the industry forward in monetary terms because of it's huge popularity. I doubt Wit Studio will not capitalize on what is successfull and let the fever wear out by prioritizing other less popular titles.

It also padded a lot to make a full two cours happen. I'm not shocked at the regression to one cour. Less padding, cheaper to produce, and perhaps reflects a fear that "going big" isn't worth the payoff anymore now that the property hype has cooled off a bit.

That was great. It begins right off from where the first season left of and we got to see the new OP song too.

We got some nice action on the outdoors too against the Titans from this episode already.
Music remains top notch as expected and it was exciting to see Mike in this. Most of the main characters returns and I got a feel of nostalgia from seeing characters like Mikasa, Eren, Levi, etc.

I think the most noticeable part from the episode is seeing the Beast Titan.
What an intelligent monster!

Very excited to see more.

Excellent start, animation wise the series has a really good quality, OP is decent but is not that great when compared with the first season.

This episode is already filled with a nice amount of action, the fight against the Titan was exciting as hell, especially when he started to talk asking about the weapon.

Can't wait for episode 2.

I sure hope this precedent doesn't become a trend. There are a couple 2 cours shows I want sequels to and last thing I want is them to be chopped in half after so many years...

There is plenty of material available for two cours, if not even more. This decision makes little sense to me, unless they simply can't handle the workload and are going for a split season.

Episode 1:

I really enjoyed this first episode. The mystery regarding the titans just gets even deeper. Titans in the wall that looks like were common knowledge for the crazy priests and of course, the highlight of the episode, the abnormal Harambe Titan! That thing can speak and it displays intelligence. Not even Annie or Eren could speak while in titan form as i recall. Very interesting stuff right there. The OP had nice action scenes. Let's hope studio Wit does not disappoint in that department especially now with a season with just 12 episodes. Mike's death was awesome so they already started well

I'm just wondering, why the heck is the "ape" titan (seriously, can we call him "ape"? ) running with dinosaurs, whales and a bunch of other animals? Is it to demonstrate his relative size or something?

12 episodes huh? I'm still gonna be salty, unless they pulled a Ufo and make a split cour aka another 12-13 episodes in no less than a year

I think animals were there because official name for Monkey Trouble is Beast Titan.

I guess they won't get to the big fights that are in chapters 80 and up. We'll probably get to cover another 20 chapters, maybe pushing 30.
