"You're most likely the most prodigious engineer in the history of the Nine Schools Competition"
Geh. All this explicit praise he's getting makes me want to retch. Does this get less as the story goes on? I really hope it does. I did like how Tatsuya got bullied into joining the competition. It would be pretty unreasonable for him to willingly get involved. And it was fun seeing him not getting his way. I also liked how he managed to get his two friends on his team. Both because they are "weeds" and because it invokes the "these guys are friends" feeling I mentioned before. I'm not sure if I consider it notable because of Tatsuya's personality or because I don't get the feeling from most anime. |

So what happened to Morisaki was as expected, being set-up in the story to be in an accident. There was so much material in this episode, it will take some time to digest. Also, Tatsuya competing is expected, too. However, I was surprised that Leo and Miki are going to compete as well. I didn't expect them until the following year. At least we got some snippets of the boy's competition this episode.
I'm guessing that the next episode will get a little more exciting, since Tatsuya will finally join the competition. It will still be preliminaries, though. Also, it was a nice reason for not showing the boys' competition up until now, with Tatsuya claiming that he did not watch the boys' side, so he is not familiar with their abilities. It's the same with the audience. We have no idea what the boys' are capable of, or at this point, we really don't care.

"Some people are destined to never be heroes!" Wishfulfillment sure is high in this anime, now conviently opens a path for Tatsuya to shine even more by being the hope of the School to win this competition. The other two will be outshined by him anyway. Also, its funny how people are more impressed by secondary chars than by the godly MCs. BTW, Shizuku is too cute hope we see more of her. |

Like Arlia said, the OP, while awesome, is way too intense for Mahouka.
Geez, this episode hit all of the points for the NSC Arc episode formula I mentioned in the episode discussion thread for Episode 13 except the blushing moment. Looks like I was quite spot on about them. When the most interesting part of an episode was the minor exposition on some antagonist characters, there's a problem. That and when the supporting cast seems much more interesting than the main character is also a sign of a problem. I remember seeing someone in this forum saying that Mahouka is all about Tatsuya, Miyuki, and the 1-E band overpowering everybody else. Looks like we're going to see more of that.

They all look like they love getting praised by Tatsuya and wants to be patted on the head by him But yeah, Shizuku is adorable (come work for me Tatsuya because I want you all to myself) Maybe it is because I love kuudere characters =w=; |

I wonder how would Leonhart and Mikihiko reacts to this?
Considering these guys are all three Course One students, if they actually win, then it will be big news to all Magic Schools. It is already decided since the start of this arc, the teamwork these of three in PE class in the beginning shows Tatsuya knows better use about these two than "unknown" Course One students to him. |

Hmm, putting Tatsuya as a player might sound plausible given the situation regarding Shun (Poor guy, he got rubbed by a sabotage!), but I feel that he might edged-out against the Masaki/George pair unless either his buddies Leonhart and Mikihiko aren't pushovers, or he exerts his OP status to the max.
On the other hand, I feel that Miyuki's chanting of "Onii-sama!" is getting low! I mean, she uttered one on this episode! |

As was foretold in the ancient scriptures, a great calamity has befallen the First High Monolith Code Rookie Team. While there were other options available, THE Jesus Tatsuya was summoned alongside his apostles to do battle against Red Shirt #1 and Red Shirt #2. For only he and his followers can guarantee a first place finish for First High on the Rookie competition. Being THE GUY is tough work, but someone has to do it!
On the next episode of To Aru Majutsu no Tatsuya, SMOTE! Let THE Jesus smote the competition! A red shirt does not stand a chance against the almighty power of the most prodigious engineer in the history of the Nine Schools Competition! Later on down the road we will get to see high school kids take out battle robots because they're awesome like that. |
