gloomy Akatsuki is very sad... and it looks like the problem that Raynesia faced is only because she's not being honest with herself.. Raynesia should be the only noble People of the Land that can adapt with adventurer's lifestyle due to her dislikeness toward formality and rules
Souji is going to be badass in next episode.... cool! and I feel bad that Naotsugu and Shiroe didn't manage to comeback during Christmas "I miss my lord".... she's so lonely T__T I want to cuddle her |

Blood, wounds, dismemberment, attempted rape, implied actual rape, things like cutting up monster corpses to harvest ingredients... as I understand it these things and many more were censored out, due to Log Horizon airing on NHK. This isn't a world of sweetness and light these folks are living in.

Well the Akatsuki character building arc has started it seems.
I'm more excited seeing Souji fight again. Sometimes I wonder if some of the Adventurers actually talked about Earth's history to Leynessia. I'd be excited to talk about it tbh.

I wonder about that as well. Has any adventurer ever told lander about their origin? Especially Shiroe&Ragan case. I'm very curious about how much information Shiroe actually "share" with Ragan after his lecture about spirit theory and all. Had he told him that adventure came from other world ? that only part of them were here during 2nd world fragment and 3rd world fragment cut them off from their old world. I'm not sure Shiroe willing to share all that

Damn, I hate to say this since I really enjoyed LH 1, but this episode and DEEN's character designs was plain bad.
Akatsuki was also really annoying with her inability to take any kind of action to address her own short comings when the answer is really obvious and instead we get to listen to her "woe is me" speeches throughout the entire episode. Leynessia's worries from her point of view was really hard me to follow since it boils down to "It's because they're adventurers" reasoning. I am not quite sure if this was a failing of the light novels or DEEN's adaptation, but was really scratching my head since it really came across as a shallow reason. Then we get to enjoy some of DEEN's quality throughout this episode: WHAT HAPPENED TO YOU LOG HORIZON!?

Aside from animation differences between s1 and s2 I found myself generally enjoying the ep.
Gotta admit I too am looking forward to potentially seeing Souji get serious on hearing what happened to his guild member - always liked his character, and the spin off manga that focuses on him and the west wind brigade is an enjoyable read for me. It was interesting for me to see the ep focusing on both Lenessia and Akatsuki struggling with their thoughts and feelings like that, in particular I liked hearing the characters giving commentary on each other - in this case Akatsuki stood out the most. In many ways she is a bit of a mysterious character, playing her cards close to her chest and being fairly reserved in general. This, combined with her sincerity makes for an endearing figure to be sure. ^^

She's trying to observe someone using the higher level of skills: the things that are being translated as "teachings" in the official subtitles, for some reason. She's hoping that seeing someone use it will allow her to learn how to do it without having to directly ask for help. It may have escaped your notice, but Akatsuki isn't exactly a people person. She really doesn't handle groups or social interactions all that well.

Also having to actually admit to others that she's weak and she can't do it herself is humiliating for her that and her introverted personality holds her back too. The others seem to have mostly figured out her woes on their own yet they aren't approaching her about it either.
Probably also Japenese culture at work here which will seem odd to us Westerners. |

I've always felt that from the character-side of LH's story, Akatsuki has always been the weak link. Her complex about looking young isn't that compelling in the face of the current anime aesthetic (when many characters look much younger than in reality). Her RPing background never comes into play other than being "my lord this, my lord that", never do we see her interject any knowledge of the game's Lore and so contribute to both the story and her friends (imagine if she had studied Lore like a real RPer? She would have known quite a lot about the world when dealing with PoL politics last season).
And then there's this episode. Okay, lets say that she's the type of RPer who doesn't earn money or level (most RPers I know do either one or both to gain access to more RP opportunities). That doesn't mean that she doesn't know how to. If her equipment is low level, it should be common knowledge where to get the next level/how to craft it. She already has alliances with the biggest merchant guilds in the area, so all she has to do is to go out, earn the money, and then commission them. If she doesn't want that, she has alliances with Crescent Moon, BBB and Black Sword Knights. Surely there are a few of similar equipment level as her that wont be out killing goblins? Just make a party and loot a couple of dungeons where those items usually drop. Or just PUG it. Offer gatherers/crafters your help in leveling their battle classes in exchange for their services/money. Instead we have her pining for Shiroe, which weakens her already watered down character (I'm sorry, a RPer with so little to say about the Lore feels inauthentic to me). |
