Vocaloid (not Vocaloid2) had a KAITO program which had a male voice, apart from MEIKO and some other ones I forgot. For their English releases they had Lola and Leon and one more I can't remember. Leon is obviously a male voice.
But from what I gather Vocaloid was nowhere near the hit that Vocaloid2 is becoming, primarily because of its image... For one if you look at the boxart you can tell MEIKO has a completely different appeal and if you heard her she sounds more mellow and not as cute as Miku. Vocaloid2 on the other hand... well, there's one more female one coming up, and who knows if they'll come up with a male one. I hope they do. They should. Actually I insist they do (even if I can't buy it anyway). EDIT: I might as well mention I liked the video of Onecup-P who ordered his Hatsune Miku on Amazon (aka konozama) and it didn't come (until 100 years later ) and there were other people teasing him in return. Specially made for Miku
The original fan compositions for Hatsune Miku.
These songs sound very natural. Miku-chan is still learning how to sing in foreign languages as she attempts to sing La Marseillaise, Das Lied der Deutschen, God Save the Queen and The Star-Spangled Banner in succession. Yamaha still has work to do if Miku-chan is to make it overseas. |

The sound font (voice source) in Hatsune Miku was designed to pronounce Japanese language. Japanese language includes very few consonants than european language. So Miku's capability of singing european songs is limited.
English Vocaloid2 Sweet Ann (MySpace.com): http://www.myspace.com/vocaloidsweetann Her English sounds fairly decent for me. Anyway, it seems that the character concept of Ann totally differ than Miku. Moe-nized fan art of Sweet Ann: |

She has a gun? Is that supposed to be how the Japanese view Westerns?
Someone mentioned that Mikuru is developed by Yamaha, is that true? I was led to believe that it was an open source project based on previous posts...
