Yeah, on the one hand it would have been nice to have the cold open the manga had and then roll back from there a bit, but on the other hand I can see why they might have chosen to run in chronological order rather than flashback.
I was surprised that releasing the first three episodes didn't quite take us up as far as [significant event], as I'd read the first omnibus volume of the manga I was kind of expecting the three episodes to include [significant event] because that would really have hooked people. |

I'm just starting this series and so far so good. I've seen the manga on shelves for years but the synopsis never sounded interesting. Honestly, it still doesn't but it looks good.
I do feel bad for Leif Erikson and how much crap he's getting from the kids considering he's the most famous Norseman known to the Western world.

Question about Vinland guys. I've heard it's a brutal series, but how brutal are we talking? I'm okay with animated blood, gore, and violence, but I draw the line at torture porn (honestly, most physical torture to be honest), rape, or killing babies, that sort of thing. I'm only 10 minutes in this series, but I just want to get an idea of what I would be in for.

I think rape gets alluded to but not shown in full.

In some ways it's quite shonen-y in terms of mood (quite a bit of "rule of cool") but I'd say the story becomes more seinen-like over time (ie starts asking deeper questions). It both glorifies and vilifies Vikings. And yes they do do the "rape and pillage" thing but it's much more like a background detail than the focus. Men and women both are kidnapped and enslaved. Life is cheap. However, most of the deaths occur in battle/war and that's largely where the action is. Last edited by kari-no-sugata II; 2019-07-08 at 06:11. |

The series was a nice begin, i already hate Thor son and will be a long torm to like him, but the series is amazing, with an unique take on realism in the setting, not romantical and show how viking were the pirate of ice seas they were and very ruthless. The triple chapter(a mini movie basically) was a nice set up.

Huh, so an 11th century dude has way better morals about how to handle slavery than most average isekai protagonists. What wonders never cease?
The first three episodes which felt a lot like a prologue which hasn't concluded were quite good. This was a series I heard about quite a bit, but otherwise lacked motivation in seeking out. I think turned out for the better in this case since could appreciate the experience more when not knowing what is going. This seem like another historical fantasy show, though surprisingly leaning more historical side than most. I just hope it doesn't constrain itself too much in trying to be accurate that forgets to tell a story too. |

As for people saying there's a quality jump rather than a quality drop after that point, we clearly don't visit the same places because I've never heard such a thing.

It became far more engagin for me, the quality goes up, it just goes for some interesting themes, that were nto that present before that point; but the aniem is already putting those themes since the first episodes anyway. |
