I started catching up with the series today. It is very entertaining so far, and I really like the way each of the characters has his or her own unique personality, making the whole mix a very rich one. And what can I say about the balance of comedy and drama? It's just incredibly great.

It doesn't escape him how much they were saved by the Chairwoman getting involved.

Though it does take a while to really hit home how much he has lost. Not surprising in some ways since Ryuichi was probably usually alone with his brother since his parents were away often. A simple but effective move to just have it hit home after he was about to make the phone call. I thought he would correct the nurse about his parents, but maybe in that moment even he had forgotten they were dead. Nice timing by the Chairwoman to be there when Ryuichi did finally break down.
It was almost impossible not to shed tears when we saw Ryuichi realizing that he would no longer be able to speak to his parents. Then the Chairwoman arriving and telling Ryuichi that they do not have to cope with the mourning process alone was a beautifully handled scene from start to finish.

I genuinely look forward for more.

It seems the Cute Boys (and Critters) Anime had similar themes recently. The B part of this episode of Gakuen Babysitters went along Miira no kaikata with the flu theme, while the A part followed the "sibling feels he must become substitute parent and sacrifice himself for the sake of his younger sibling" theme in last week's episode of Sanrio Boys.

I kind of liked the resolution here, too. Ryuuichi pretty much has to continue not living the life of an average teenager if he wants to stay together with his brother (and not end up in an institution himself, I guess), so unlike Yuu he doesn't really have a choice. But now at least he has a friend around to make it less isolating. Still, I hope that with time he can ease up a little, and have some time off, out of school, with people who aren't actual toddlers.

So... why is Usaida not fired yet? He sleeps on the job and lets some inexperienced kid barely out of middle school handle toddlers, and when he isn't losing sight of one of the kids he's actually letting them roam free like he did with Kirin in this episode. "Oh well, as long as she's not jumping off from somewhere" - well duh, it's supposed to be your job to make sure she doesn't! Why are you letting her be?! I mean OK, I know this is a comedy, but come on.

It's age, not height. Chuukichi is the second son, hence "chuu", middle. Kichi and Suekichi are twins but Suekichi is the younger, hence "sue", end/youngest. (Which I think is a pretty terrible way to name your twins, basically "Kichi" and "Little Kichi"... not even the actual meaning of "suekichi" is particularly auspicious, heh. Meanwhile Kichi is left out of the system!) I imagine the oldest son is Daikichi or something, and the rest of the kids must be girls.

Anyway, I know this is me being a terrible, jaded adult but man, someone should really tell the chairwoman about Usaida. He sends a toddler out alone! He doesn't even bother to follow what's happening to him, he just tells some kid to go look after the baby! What!!! The students' reactions to Kotarou were hilarious, though. (But still nobody thought to follow him, even though they saw that he could barely climb the stairs?! This really is Irresponsibility High...)

Also, I know what they're going for with Inomata, but she's getting really annoying...

Well, this won't be on my top list of favorite episode for this show... Too much of Inomata (I normally like tsundere characters but she's the most annoying kind) and too much annoying and affected baby talk. Too bad, because the B part could have been cute...

I concur.

Note: Ryuuchi would make a good younger brother as well.

It's pretty hard to argue with that choice, though it still surprises me. Still - this is a series that's definitely more popular in Japan than the West.

Also: Kotarou is front and center on the 2018 Anime Japan poster.

Aw, this was cute. I wonder where the Kamitani brothers' dad was, though. Are their parents separated?

Also, I kind of expected a detour on the whole thing about eggs = cute baby birds, but also eggs = yummy food thing. Perhaps there was one in the manga that they had to cut due to time constraints? (PapaMeshi has a pretty good episode about one of the kids having to come to terms with the fact that that although he loves fish, fish are also delicious and we eat them.)

As someone who doesn't really like little kids and doesn't know what to do with them most of the time, the B part of this episode was surprisingly on point. He's all smelly and yucky, but eh, he's my little brother.

The series' finale was alright. Seems this episode took around the time period around Christmas week. Personally, I wasn't impressed by the first half with Saikawa but it's nice to see the Kashima brothers' daily life moments again.

Nice to see the kids behave again like they way I had expected to in the finale. Koutarou and Taka had a cute moment together. I'm slightly disappointed that the finale didn't have much Inomata as I had hoped for.

Kirin's father is still over the top as usual lul

It was a sweet ending for the ending. 7/10. I didn't expect too much from this anime but it did manage to entertain me in the way I wanted to.

Yeah Hayato's & Taka's mom and dad are divorced, but fans still ship them and they still work at the same school as teachers. Hayato's dad resembles him, while Taka resembles his mom. Hayato's dad is a male tsundere lol. This series has very likable and somewhat realistic tsunderes. Inomata is another example who is very stern with words, but has warm sides as well.

These tsunderes are so much better than the over-the-top violent tsunderes. Saiki's tsundere grandpa is also funny with his inner thoughts.

Kamitani Family Technique
-Kamitani Chop

Spoiler for Funny Chapter with Hayato & Taka's dad:
