Eeto... Do you guys even realise point of this anime? These ninjas are as wrong as Naruto ones. Actually both Naruto-esque ninjas and these black garb guys have origin in same myths and portrait shinobi with roughly same level of accuracy.

The entire point of Ninja Slayer is "Western misconception" joke.
The novel was purposely translated into Japanese with HORRIBLE Japanese intact, to make the whole thing hilarious.

History's most meta premise of all time? American "authors" with strange accents? Japanese "translators" with weird digital accessories? Massive opportunity for weeaboo butthurt? Based F**king TRIGGER?! Sign me up! As long as the creators take this series about as seriously as Gainax did PSG, this is going to be a hell of a lot of fun...

Might actually watch this now since the art isn't as western comic style as I thought it would be.

While I'm not huge on the character designs, the prospect of this being a garish parody of america's take on 90s anime is (ridiculously) too great to pass on. Trigger made a successful throwback to early days Gainax in Kill la Kill, so I'm hopeful this show will carry the torch of that studio's old flame (unlike that commonplace show last fall).

Time for that theme by BBS, once more.

The latest few Gainax shows I watched weren't bad but suffered a lack of craziness (except Magica Wars maybe), but then the studio also made a bunch of similarly as forgettable series back in mid to late 2000s such as He is my Master!, Corpse Princess and Hanamaru Kindergarten, frankly all of which lacks the studio's signature over the top atmosphere seen in their early works.

At the very least however, Gainax has recently created its substudio in Fukushima to recomfort the tragedy that is the Tohoku earthquake 4 years ago so I guess it can do in-between animation for the upcoming Trigger series.
