It's probably just protective military gear, similar to the 101st suit or the protective gear seen in Monolith Code.

Yes, it's afterword for Erika and Leo's story.
I didn't read it carefully but I grasped that this story isn't from Media Bunko SS (first writing).
The author admitted the writing for this kinda sloppy so he/she intended to refine it again if there's chance.

Also, for volume 22, there will be little flashback and detour before really starting the third year of Mahouka.
Author wanted to make a some story of accomplishment (Katsuyaku) from the former third year (not sure it's about Katsuto, Mayumi, and Mari team or it's about Hattori and his friends), but that's only author's wish.

My opinion, I just hope the flashback won't too long because Tokyo Ravens will be flashback arc too
And I haven't had a chance to read this volume

Sorry, it wasn't about this story but the unpublished dengeki bunko SS gaiden. The author wanted to refine it more before publishing it (CMIIW).

Also, yes, the author mentioned the start of "Third year" will start in volume 22, volume 21 will be flash back story and some reroute story ("yori michi").

The most confuse is 're-route' story. Hey Mr. Author, did news about film star wars rogue one need to re-shot just to much for you to handle and make a decision to re-route your art work to make sure 3rd year ark (vol 22) will relevant?????

The author said, "current 3rd year". So, it would be about Hattori, Isori, Kanon, and others. Will there be flashback? I thought, the author just said, he will turn back time to the present and provide another side story.

He died at the age of 96. At the similar time period, Rozen family learned about the existence of Leo who inherited the gene of Burg Folge 1st form(形式). Rozen was commissioned by German military to produce Burg Folge series, and Rozen still has a right(ownership) over Genes of Burg Folge series. In Mahouka, Leo is only one who has this gene, so Rozen wants Leo.

Ernst has two missions in Japan: 1. get Leo back to Rozen, 2. find and hire Silver. At the end of SS, he didn't achieve any of his goal. First, he failed to learn identity of Silver. Second, he failed to kidnap Leo.

Initially, Ernst tries to win Leo's trust by offering him a high level position in Rozen Magicraft. Better yet, Ernst even asks Leo to marry Erika and join Rozen family. According to Ernst, Rozen has no interest in Erika, but if Leo marries Erika who has a blood of Rozen, Leo can even join Rozen family. But, Leo rejected the offer.

Ernst sent Linda Wahrheit and Emma Wahrheit to get Leo. Initially, they asked Leo to come with them peacefully and explain what will happen to Leo if he joins them and move to Germany. According to them, Rozen want Leo as a stud and explain to Leo that Leo will have sex with many beautiful women (yes. the book actually say, "sex"). They say, the first woman will be Erika, and their child will be a magician who inherit the blood of Rozen and Burg Folge 1st form. And, Leo got pissed, and battle started. Later, Erika joins the battle, and Leo and Erika won.

After the event, Erika visited and threatened Ernst to stay away. Ernst said, he gave up. And, suddenly he asked Erika to join Rozen family through adoption. Ernst promised Erika, he will be her custodian (sponsor). He said, Erika is borned with elegance, which is exceptionable even among members of Rozen family. But, Erika rejected the offer.

I will also post this at FB group page. I cut most of detail, but it may still get deleted by the admin.

According to Korean translator who translated the SS, he thinks, the author may have used Google Translator for German words in this chapter because some German words in SS show errors that Google translator often make.

What is the point of writing many pages about a new character that achieved nothing and has no use for later either?
