If I understand correctly, the trailer says that only two arcs will be filmed in these 3 cours, 「世直し姉弟編」and 「千魔混沌編」 (I haven't read manga and I don't know how much it is).

I have not read the manga, but judging from the comments, it only has 2 story arcs, so it will be a full adaptation.

Interesting comment from Hanada that he was originally asked to adapt the entire manga in "about 24 episodes", and declined because he (rightly) didn't feel it was enough.

Quite a lot of footage at the Sengoku Youko stage event at KYOMAF today (also Kimura Ryouhei, which had me a bit starstruck ). Overall it looked pretty good - leagues ahead of the Hoshi no Samidare abomination, at any rate. That's obviously a low bar but this looks like it's going to be solidly competent, which is "good enough" given all the Mizukami scar tissue the Water God's fans have built up with the anime industry.

It is the era of Eiroku and bad Satoshi Mizukami adaptions, but hopefully this show make up for the latter, especially with White Fox at the helm .

Ryohei Kimura plays dorky and aspiring samurai Shinsuke who in his quest to slay a gang of brigands to make a name for himself only to run into none other than a quirky pair of sworn siblings including a Soma Saito voiced sendou named Jinka and a cute but uncompromising and diligent Youko named Tama voiced by Yuki Takada. And thus we get introduced to our protagonists .

Shinsuke needs to learn the art of stealth, though Tama's plan was to basically lecture them all and tell them the benefits of good and honest living so I guess getting caught didn't really matter. Not that Tama's "foolproof" argument worked either, but you can't fault her for trying .

Oh hey, Shinsuke cut his first helmet! Congratulations! Though he's still a ways off from fighting the Big Boss, especially when said boss is secretly a supernatural creature called a katawara (so Onikabuto wasn't a misnomer). And Tama can transfer her power to Jinka so he can transform into a fox spirit man and slay the katawara, though he seem to care more about them than he does humans .

Two siblings out to reform the world and reclaim it from it's barbarity? One who is a spunky older than she looks girl who loves humans and another a foul-tempered, snarky, guy who hates them? What a team !

Without much else to do Shinsuke follows the pair as they find another instance of a katawara rampaging and also run into the Dansaigyuu, an order of priest monks who slay "evil" katawara, though they don't seem keen on any .

Shinsuke has his own baggage, having grown up getting bullied for not being able to prove his father was a samurai, which is why he's so obsessed with becoming one and earning that status. Not that Jinka or Tama really care, they're more than happy to just bully or tease him, though Tama is there to make sure Jinka doesn't take it too far .

Well, so much for the Dansaigyuu! But Shinsuke thinks he's truly found the answer to his quest in the siblings' battle with katawara, but there seems more to Shakugan by the end of the episode .

Well, I've got no complaints so far the animation was great and as were the voice actors. Hope they can keep up with this production quality.

Spoiler for adaptation rate speculation:

They adapted two chapters but the first one is 40% bigger, so three chapters per episode is probably going to be the norm after this (maybe a bit too fast for my taste, but we'll see) and if so the first cour adapts all of the first part. But then surely this is going to be a three one cour series because that that way it can adapt every thing?

edit: Apparently it was already announced to be three cours and I had forgotten about it.

According to an interview with animate Times, voice actor Soma Saito mentions that the "Sengoku Youko" anime was, with approval from author Satoshi Mizukami, originally planned to be 2 cours focused on the "Thousand Demons Chaos" arc with flashbacks to the "World Reform Siblings" arc.

According to Mr. Saito's comments, WHITE FOX President Gaku Iwasa is an ardent fan of author Satoshi Mizukami's works, and that passion helped influence the decision to expand the project into a complete adaptation with 3 cours.

Well I hope Enzo sends WHITE FOX President a personal thank you note and some complementary sweets because he certainly deserves it.

The version of this story I heard was that it was Hanada Jukki (the writer, extremely tenured) who insisted it had to be three cours. Whatever the reason it’s obviously great that it got three. But if they had to do in two,
