Uki doki memo!!
I loved the references in episode 4 to Tokimeki memorial girl's side ( what a wonderful game for girls. I can understand Renge's obsesion a little bit ). In Tokimeki there's also a shota, a sport guy, a Kyouya I mean... an intelectual character, and of course a glourious prince... Kei who hates being called ojisama and is very isolated from everyone ( Tamaki played the role pretty well in my humble opinion ).
Two nice details were the love for the flowers of the fake Kyouya ( in Tokimeki GS the intelectual character loves flowers too) and his picture with a cat ( the main character Kei has many romantic scenes related with cats in the game, you know, he is so kind and sweet and all ). About the adaptation I'm a bit... umm... worried. Is great and very fun this comedy style but... 56 episodes like this? (if every chapter and extra of the manga is an episode of the anime more than that). Not really my cup of tea . I can imagine the last episode with the classic ending " and they were all friends and live happyly for ever after because she learned their true personalities" and I know some people would be happy with it ( because they love Host Club like a parody and while its funny till the end they don't mind if it has an open ending) but other people like me would be greatly dissapointed ( because we love Host Club like a romantic comedy like Tamaky said and this is a shojo... or not? ). Don't you think it would be very mean to make all this romantic scenes between Haruhi and Tamaki in almost every episode ( with Haruhi staring at him like this) only to fool us?? . |

Episode 5.
The cafeteria scene was brilliant! I was in stitches. The rest of the episode was a bit dry, particularly the first half. I'd probably say this has been among the less funny episodes in this series, but considering how hilarious the vast majority of this series has been so far, that's not a really bad thing. I did find the final scene interesting, given the reaction from Hikaru and Kaoru when Haruhi correctly pick them. It makes me think that the series is going to start moving to be more character-focused and less comedy-focused... which is a move I applaud, because, as I've been saying all along, there's only so long a series can be as consistantly funny as this one, backhanding the shoujo genre.

After watching four and five, I have to say that the highlights were:
1) The filming of the video was FANTASTIC! I was practically crying at how brilliantly funny it was. The letter box effect, the allusions to typical shoujo cliches-- It was all just too incredible. I got to give props to Honey-kun's seiyuu. He did a great job in that scene. However, I'm not excited about Spoiler:
2. Concerning episode 5, did the twin's Spoiler:

I personally think they both like her, but as friends. Tamaki or Kyouya I think are the guys that can dare to go beyond friendships. And with the more serious tone I would like to believe we're getting closer to a more serious romance comedy.
I personally would like some sad moments culminated by a happy ending!

I really liked this episode mostly because of the dramatic twist at the end, but I'm also even more impressed at how the series can consistently add an underlying theme relating to real life situations underneath all of the comedy.
I might have to start refreshing my memory re-reading the manga to spoil myself on what's coming up. <3 Oura HS Host Club!! |

Another solid episode. I definitely didn't expect what came at the end, haha.
physics223: I don't know... at the very beginning of the show, I guessed that Kyouya and Tamaki would be the main candidates as far as potential romantic development with Haruhi goes. Having seen a little more of Ouran, though, I don't think Kyouya is ever going to throw himself into the fray. He seems much more content to just sit back and watch the hijinks. |

Finding this series to be keeping a really high consistency, very funny and wonderful to watch, as in great artwork and colours, the scene from ep 4 where tamaki was getting by the arrows was soo funny and the music was perfect.
Im really enjoying this atm and the little bit of seriousness from the twins was great nothing too intrusive just a nice little bit of drama, if they do plan on doing more drama i hope they keep it nice and simple. Also the Host club seems like a bunch of nice guys (+ 1 girl) , just a bit spoilt (- 1 girl) =D |
