More or less. His character data from SAO is stored on the local cache of his NervGear, so the skills he developed in the two years transferred over where applicable. Same with his items, though they aren't recognized by the game. It's because ALO is built off of SAO's engine, though its Cardinal system is outdated in comparison. There's a specific reason for this which will be revealed shortly.
