Which may suggest that newtype tech is still being developed, unless the pirates used some leftover tech from UC that they acquired. Still, I'm not too fond of the potential fate implication. Hopefully it's just marketing language.

Never noticed this but http://en.gundam.info/topics/white/34204 has official English translations of the official site.

Quote:
Bellri Zenam (CV: Mark Ishii)
A cadet in the Capital Guard Academy, created to advance the protection of the Capital Tower.
His prodigious talents carry him upward in the ranks quickly, earning a double promotion.
He falls for Aida at first sight, and joins the pirates in their battle against the Capital Army.
He is one of three people who can pilot the G-Self.
I was right!

Can't say I blame him for falling for Aida at first sight .

BTW - G-Self is the new Impulse Gundam...

Quote:
G-Self
A mysterious mobile suit, unassociated with any nation. It can only be operated by Bellri, Aida, and Raraiya.
It can change backpacks to adapt to its combat zone. Changing backpacks also changes its colors.
Space backpack … A backpack developed by Ameria which, inexplicably, can be used by the G-Self.
Atmospheric pack … A backpack used for operations within the atmosphere.
...and there's our first reference to Turn A Gundam

The designs on the previous page also seem to be a completely red G-Self with heavy ordinance backpack. Though from the descriptions so far, it seems like at least some of the packs for the G-Self are more dependent on the environment than for specific combat needs.

I hope one of these various color changing and backpack swapping moments give the G SELF a traditional v-fin.

All this speak about "fate" is just expanding on the mythology of "Gundam", in that Gundam and Gundam pilots have reached religious levels of symbolism in human culture after centuries. Anything that survive long enough can have it happen to them, and Gundam certainly has in the era of 1014 R.C.

I don't know if it's that. The official translation is "Bellri's destiny as a chosen pilot of the G-Self." That's just referring to Bellri as one of the three people who can pilot the G-Self (which is not referred to as a Gundam) and his eventual fate as pilot. I am not sure it's alluding that anything is predetermined either. So yes, it's just marketing language.

based on that rough translation summary, so our main guy meet the Gundam along with its pilot Crossbone's Tobia Arronax-style & he joins her side & also became one of her Gundam's reserve pilots,

so its a Kinkado (how do you spell F91 spoiler guy's secret identity?), Umon Samon, Tobia swap/borrow fest unless there are other G-Self units akin to the X-1, X-2, & X-3 with the X-2 being a Zabine Cruze exclusive unit

I really dislike this kind of plot. Oh well, I may still find something enjoyable about the show.

They are hinting at multiple G-Self units I think... Since Monday pilots one to Earth too.

From what I've seen of the manga translation, we spell the guy's name as "Kincaid".

With the right kind of execution, this kind of plot can be good like Black Lagoon for example. But if it's done wrong, it can be unbelievably bad like Guilty Crown. But there's also the mixed bag like Eureka 7.

I actually dropped all three shows after watching their respective first episodes. (Well, AO, as I never saw the first E7.)

Anyway, seeing as how it's Gundam, I doubt I'll drop this one.

Having our MC join a pirate faction because of some broad doesn't exactly translate into good story telling for me. But that's probably not the whole story.

I guess the Capital Guard ends up as corrupt or something.

Pirates are bad. Space pirates, however, are good. Especially if they have bounty hunters chasing their tails.
