Russia halts most international flights

Aeroflot will continue operating flights within Russia and between Russia and Belarus, the firm said.

https://www.argusmedia.com/en/news/2...tional-flights

So basically, the only "country" Russia can trust not to detain their rented (mostly from an irish company) airplanes is Belarus. No doubt putin must wish that Syria, NK and Eritrea had land borders with them.

Russia might become a vassal state of China for a while. Of course, they're not going to frame it that way

A Korean military FB group (I'm in there) can confirm that South Korean military vets (aka those who did national service already) should be in Europe via plane.

They're also aware of potentially being detained if they choose to go back.

In that sense this is starting to look a lot like the Spanish Civil War. Of course we all know how that turned out…

Well the Russians are taking the playbook and are speaking to pro-Assad Syrians about volunteering in Ukraine alongside Russian troops.

That would have been if putin had only sent undercover troops, but he did for eight years with zero results, he should understood that pro-russian ukranians were not interested in doing a peasant revolt, which is what happened during the spanish civil war. Now there are no pro-russian ukranians outside the donbas and crimea area and even those must start to have doubts about this war.

Do they really have troops to spare? AFAIK Turkey in the north still holds territory. Meanwhile, the rest of the world is at peace and has plenty of people itching to get their "I went to Ukraine and helped crush the Russian army" t-shirts.

I would say atm those press releases are mostly for consumption inside russia, in the hopes of preventing a peasant revolt. They will keep getting more absurd as time goes by.

Russia established its list of “hostile” countries and announced what punishment it will apply to them

The Russian authorities established a list of “hostile” countries, to which individuals and companies will be able to repay their debts in rubles

https://oicanadian.com/russia-establ...-apply-to-them

I say the EU should buy said rubles to do advancement payments for Russian gas and oil, so they choke on their worthless currency.

Elon Musk: “High” probability of Russian attacks on Starlink in Ukraine

https://arstechnica.com/tech-policy/...nk-in-ukraine/

I say the Ukranian forces should set up (obvously cheap) decoy starlink antennas, if they get hit by a misiles, it is one missile less in their arsenal and if they send in a fighter jet or helicopter to bomb it, hit them with land to air missile. win-win if you ask me.

Russia reveals harsh demands for ending war

https://news.yahoo.com/russia-declar...083345498.html

1. Ukraine halt its military activity. In rapist's terms, stop struggling so that I can have my way with you at leisure.

2. change its Constitution to include neutrality so it can't join the EU or NATO. here neutrality obviously does not mean "never became part of the russian sphere of influence", quite the opposite.

3. recognize Crimea as Russian territory. So Russia is against ceding part of its territory but it is ok with taking other countries territory, hypocrites!

4. recognize independence for the separatist regions of Donetsk and Lugansk.. So they can annex them like they did with Crimea.

Of course, this is the equivalent of getting into a car in a person kidnap, this terms would only be the start of the nightmare, then would come the puppet government and then the most brutal repression since the days of Stalin.

It feeds into US covid disinfo too. We have a considerable amount of people who already believe that covid is a conspiracy to kill conservatives.

We haven't forgotten what Trump tried to do in Ukraine either, and I suspect we'll hear Russian propaganda about that eventually.

Watching several videos in youtube presented a novel idea, russia is hopelessly anachronistic, they are still in the era of colonialism. Let me explain myself, there was a time when europe colonized land far from their borders, in america, africa, asia & au/nz. But russia colonized land near their borders. The USA did something similar, but they went to the next stage (neo-colonialism, or economical colonialism) while russia0s leadership still believe they must colonize the rest of europe/asia (heck, putin still believes he can reclaim alaska) to stay relevant. Heck they believe they must have a naval presence all over the world even though their only relevant export is oil/gas.

Hope this sets a precedent in the XXI century that war (at least in europe) wont be tolerated

Syria has a lot of pro-Damascus militias and special units in the police and interior ministry, not to mention the Republican Guard.

It's only thanks to Russian and Iraninan intervention that Assad got almost its territory back and bolstered his numbers.

I would speculate that Russia would look to recruit veterans who are on their way out of Syrian service. Or those who are allowed to go if Assad says it's fine. After all, he's one of Russia's strong backers in the ME/yes men.

OTOH, the mainstream FSA is willing to provide assistance to the Ukrainian volunteers, including Abu TOW.

If Syrian army sends reinforcements, they are in for a rude awakening, if putin has treated their own forces like a PoS, cannon fodder from other countries (including Belarus) will be used as cheap condoms, mark my words.

So, any bets when putin will start bombing his own citizens and blaming Ukraine/Ukranians? He is a one trick pony, did it with the chechenia war and will do it again when he thinks the time is right.

Mind that the words were, and I quote: "But first, we would like you to do us a favor though".

The former president of the USA was, in an official capacity, talking to a country in need of assistance and he made that assistance conditional on said other country finding dirt on his political opponent's son. Let us not forget that that happened and that it was taken to an impeachment trial where the president didn't get removed from office simply because his party had completely reneged on morals in order to ensure their team won.

I have no idea how much the meetings between the former us president with Putin helped the Russian federation feel confident that they could invade Ukraine but I wouldn't be surprised if it helped. The US, long the worlds most influential superpower, flagged during 4 years and opened the door to other competing powers to exert their influence. This is only one of the consequences (Hong Kong is another. Syria another. And hopefully China's aspirations for Taiwan get put on the backburner after the backlash to Ukraine).
