It is frankly Nisio's take on the mystery/detective genre. We also have of course Oikura Sodachi which is a new character. We also have new 30+ characters in the story that talks.....kinda weird.

And in what timing this story takes place? Is Araragi still the narrator of the story? These characters are just some background characters, nothing more? I mean, Monogatari series has a lot of that kind of characters, they were just cut from anime. And, for me the main thing - Sodachi is male or female (still it's the new member of Araragi's harem) ?

I think it takes place right before kizu. Kanbaru introduced Ougi to Koyomi. Sodachi is a girl.

You can say the others are background characters, but then Arararagi and the others should be background characters as well.

Riddle and Lost might be around that looong break in the timeline after otori when Arararagi will meet Sodachi again.

There should be foreshadowing of Sodachi in the next three arcs of the anime. DO IT SHAFT.

I'm looking forward for riddle and lost and how nisio will pull it out.

You meant sometime right after Neko White and before Otori, right? Cause Kanbaru introdeced Ougi to Araragi somewhere at that time.

^ The day Kanbaru introduced Ougi? There's no date in the book. It was just implied that Kanbaru introduced her.

The story that Ararararagi is telling us in the book was at the events before kizu. July 15 of two years ago. He was still a freshman.

The foreshadowing in Oni which I'm expecting in the anime is about the dialogue between him and Ougi. SHAFT might even put a Sodachi sillohueteee whatever in that scene. Which they should.

Does anyone want a summary to make things clearer? I'm not good with summaries but I guess I'll try if anyone wants to. Or another user here who read the book will be much better?

Oh, and there was implying about when Ougi was introduced to Araragi. That was in Kabukimonogatari in the beginning of the book, when he's saying that Kambaru told him about new freshman in their school with last name "Oshino". So it means that it was in the beginning of his 3rd year in Highschool.

And you could say the stuff you have read/watch in Kabuki after the conversation between Ougi and Araragi were just a flashback story.

Yeah, you're right, I mistook a ceremony of the beginning of new term with ceremony of new school year. It's just that I always forgetting, that new school year doesn't start in Japan at autumn.

Vague summary but here it goes...

After being introduced to Ougi, Koyomi and her planned to meet after school but the plan was halted because Ougi saw a room in the school which was supposed to be not there. Ougi even drew a sketch for arararagi to understand. They checked it out and was trapped in the room. They try to break the windows by screeching a pen in the blackboard but they failed. They even re-enacted the gore scene from suruga monkey. Still failed. Koyomi tried to sit in one of the desks and it turns out it was his desk...during his freshman days.

Koyomi then started to remember the days when he was a freshmen and this incident that he wouldn't forget. July 15. The day he lose trust on mankind and why he has that motto of making friends will just make you a loser or something like that during the events in Kizu.

Arararagi's class held a group study for the final exams. When the results of the exam was revealed, all people who went to the group study had unusually high scores in math than the ones who didn't go. The rumors of someone leaked the test questions in math has surfaced.

In order to find the person who leaked, Sodachi, who got 99 score in math, went ahead and told the class that no one will go home until they find who is the culprit.

The whole class, tired of Sodachi's bitchy attitude, chose Sodachi as the culprit by majority leading Sodachi to be a hikki and not go to school anymore.

This is the reason Arararagi is what he is in the start of Kizu.

It is not clear if Arararagi and Senjougahara voted for her as well. Arararagi also never went to the group study.

He got a perfect score.

Ougi told Ararararagi that they must find who was the culprit in order to escape from the room.

Arararagi went super genious-mode and even put a whole page of the book just to display the names of the whole class and their profiles for the readers to solve it by themselves. Senjougahara's name was also there btw. Majority of them have no clubs lol. I didn't try to solve the case and just went with Ougi's theory.

Ougi's theory is that their homeroom teacher, Komichi, whom Arararagi purposely(?) or stupidly(?) miswrote in the list as a fellow classmate, was the one who leaked the questions because she also participated in the group study. She used the same questions the students used in the group study in the final exam.

Ougi's "formula" was apparently correct so she and arararagi got out of the room.

Next day, Arararagi was informed about Sodachi replacing Komichi as the homeroom teacher by Hanekawa. END

The whole class had dialogues throughout the whole book. It was fucking random.

Komichi also voted Sodachi as the culprit.

We even have this sexy endcard with sleeveless Ononoki. HNNNNGGGG.

So if the meeting is after neko white, my guess of riddle and lost being right after these events might be correct. Hanekawa is still there so it is before Otori.

I don't know if this is also the same classroom where Arararagi opened up to Ougi about Mayoi.

I understand now, why Koyomi "can't see" his classmates and why he desided to live with "If you make friends, your strength as a human will decrease"-ideology. But I think this is not enouth... Koyomi was very devastaited at the start of Kizumono - did only this event turn him into this condition? I guess that novel contains a lot of details, which make this point clearer.

But seriously, only this thing have such an impact on Araragi's personality? I understand that with his personality, which might be quite close to his sisters, he will be psychologically harmed with such a deed. But who was she for him? Is he cared for her, she was his friend? I don't think so, considering at least Bakemonogatari and his attitude to the girls in this novel. It was kinda new for him to have girl as a friend (sisters don't count).
Maybe the thing that he voted make him to go into the deeps of zetsubou and regret and maybe hatred for himself as for the miserable being who failed to protect someone but was one, who in the end, harmed? So it pushed him to sacrifise his life to the stranger in need - Kisshot.
