The cover's art styles is different from the previous covers (colors, position of the the characters, it's really "flat" too). Is it a different artist?

volume 19. 610 Yen: 330 Pages?

Only observed from those 3 volumes, but I was too hopeful it will be around 400 pages.

By going with your numbers, it should be around 330 pages.

The illustrator is a woman but yes, her art has always been inconsistent.

It doesn't work like that. I don't remember a Mahouka volume that long even. The number of pages will be on amazon.

Yes, 400 pages was too hopeful. It maybe around 320-340 pages.

I remember reading volume 4, NSC II, (fan translation) about 300 pages.
So if it's reverted back, the raw would be around 400 pages. The price is more expensive too, at 670 Yen. But not sure, I don't have the raw.

Will the art get more and more grotesque as the volumes progress? There is something about the placement of the characters, their non-detailed designs and the lack of background that confuses me. I don't know what its trying to convey.

I'd say my biggest gripe is the lack of expression on it.

They are going out on a mission chasing a guy. They would have a serious expression. The placement of character is fine, imo. My problem with it is that the side view of tatsuya and masaki just doesn't look like them to me.

Cover looks pretty plain just like the previous vol, which is kind of disappointing.

it's said that the worst case would happen, what ever that may be. Thus it's very well possible that they are worried.

If he's really making worried expression (it doesn't look like a worried expression for me though), it's possible because Gu Jie is master of using Ghostwalker.

At this point, Tatsuya himself can't counter Ghost Walker although he dispelled a simple Yakumo's illusion technique when tried asking him Ghostwalker counter magic. Yakumo said while the idea is same, Ghostwalker is much advance than illusion technique cast on Tatsuya.
This is scene from volume 18, precisely in chapter 7.

And it's also possible because of interference STARS soldiers, Canopus Squad.

They all look to have neutral expressions to me. The preview did say that Tatsuya would get angry but I think you are reading too much into it, the worst situation for Tatsuya would be for Miyuki to die and Gu Jie to escape. He went back because he was uneasy but I am pretty sure that nothing will happen to Miyuki as usual, she not being on the cover makes me even more sure of that. He's going to get angry because of USNA and fight their forces.

Yes, I agree. I think Tatsuya is going to get angry because the one who plays things on Human-Purist Movement is USNA/Gu Jie.
If the Movement itself don't bring any harm to Miyuki, he won't care. But with the last scene at volume 18, the movement somehow escalate their position from "Simple political/anarchy movement" to "threat that needed to be eradicated" at Tatsuya's valuation.
So at the time when he learned that, he's going to be angry.

And I hope Tatsuya will use Mist Dispersion to Canopus Squad

(So there's a chance to rematch between Tatsuya vs Angelina)
At volume 18 he refrained using it though.
