Bacteriological and chemical agents aren't exactly ideal weapons to be deployed on a battlefield you expect to be trod and fully occupied by your own soldiers. High persistence (some nerve agents can remain active to some degree for whole weeks, provided weather conditions are perfect) and the inherent difficulties regarding control of propagation/dissemination (wind, etc.) make both options highly undesirable and impracticable...unless, of course, you're opting for a scorched earth policy with no intention of coming back anytime soon. There is also the question as to whether all those conscript units are equipped with proper CBRN gear and have undergone proper training in the matter.
Oh, and by the way, Moscow (and Russia, as a whole) does like to style itself as "the Third Rome" (Constantinople being the Second, as it was the capital of the Eastern Roman Empire until its capture by the Ottomans in 1453). They've been calling themselves that since the reigns of Ivan III and Peter the Great.

 Russia just lost a Proryv-3 somewhere around Kharkiv. That's got to be the most sophisticated Russian tank (aside, of course, from the EW units) to have been destroyed so far, and the closest thing they have to an Armata (which, as we all know, will never be fielded in Ukraine both due to their very high scarcity and the Kremlin's distaste towards seeing potential pictures of a T14 wreckage making the rounds) in that part of the world. The PR guys at Uralvagonzavod must not be having a good day... Especially since this comes a few days after the Russian media made a big hoopla about dispatching shiny Proryv-3s to the battlefield. On the subject of the Admiral Makarov allegedly being on fire -- I'd take that with a serious dose of salt.
So far OSINT/radar imagery doesn't show the usual ballet of ships and other naval units rushing to the (supposedly) stricken vessel's rescue and that one video making the rounds on Twitter reeks of ARMA3 mischief. The only thing somewhat out of place at the moment is the peculiar flight patterns of a British RC-135W and a Global Hawk patrolling the Black Sea, which suggests both are on station to better monitor something...although the object of their scrutiny might not necessarily be the AM. There is also a possibility the Admiral Makarov is actually sailing close to Sevastopol where most of the Black Sea Fleet has been recalled after the Moskva fiasco. EDIT: still some uncertainty as to whether there are actual rescue operations underway, with proper screenshots/evidence from third parties. Cursory looks at ship/maritime traffic tracker websites don't seem to give it credence, but then again, I don't expect those real-time maps to actually show military movements/positions (heck, they don't even show any of the Russian vessels berthing at Sevastopol).

IMO, it is a matter of time before Erdogan becomes the Judas of this war. Turkey's economy is on a downward spiral due to Erdogan wanting to rewrite economic theory. Putin is between a rock (war stalemate) and a hard place (western sanctions). I do not mean to say Turkey will send troops to invade Ukraine, merely that the bospohorus will be open for more russian navy ships to "return to their ports". No doubt putin will have to pay will lots of cheap oil, stolen grain from ukraine and promises of "state of art" russian weaponry deliveries on the future.
Of course I hope this prediction will never happen and I do not mean to have a 100% certainty, I predicted the bridge putin built to supply Crimea would be destroyed earlier and it has not yet happened (is it that hard to make a submarine drone to deliver aerial drones to set magnetic explosives into the bridge?). |

Only could fantasize about developing GPS/inertially-guided semi-submersibles loaded with explosives, but I wouldn't wager too much money on it happening anytime soon, even if drug cartels from Latin America have built some rather interesting homebrewed (but manned) subs all on their own, without the help of a state-sponsored design bureau.
More realistically and conventionally speaking, though... The Tochka-U (provided Ukraine still has any left in its inventory) is too short-ranged for that mission. There are 460kms or thereabouts between Odessa and the Crimean Bridge, which is almost four times the max range of a Scarab-B (Tochka-U). I don't think the Ukrainians have the Scarab-C, which can reach up to 180km, but the point stands. Can't go far enough. Next up is attacking the site using fast bombers. Not inconceivable, just improbable; the Ukrainian Air Force has just demonstrated with its low-altitude bombardment of Snake Island that you can get pretty close to your target by flying nap-of-the-earth (although, to be fair, Snake Island had been systematically stripped of air defense by the Bayraktars in the days preceding the UAF Flankers' bombing run), but increased radar density between Sevastopol and Novorossiysk would make their approach highly hazardous if not practically suicidal, even with the UAF's best standoff weapons. Not to mention that the SU-24s or SU-27s earmarked for that job would have to make a very large detour for a sea-skimming, direct attack coming from the South, the same way they did against Snake Island (as the defenders were expecting attacks to come from N/NW). Speaking of which, the R-360 Neptune of Moskva fame is a derivative of the Russian Kh-35U, but I do not recall it having been certified for launch from a SU-27 (which incidentally can carry the original Kh-35), only from a surface launcher. Besides and as far as I know, the R-360's purpose is pure anti-ship warfare. It only has a radar and no thermal/IR/video seeker to guide it onto the bridge proper, but still...a hypothetical SU-27-launched R-360 with land attack capability and a 280km range does sound alluring. One can only dream. As for the Bayraktars, they have the range but not the stealth and the heavy armament needed for that task.
