Golgo 13 by far, 39 years, fewer volumes because of higher amount of chapters per volume.

I think for Manga it's gotta be Jojo's Bizzare Adventure. It started in the 80's and is technically still going in sequels.

Just wondering, anyone know what the longest running shoujo manga is? I have a feeling its Glass Mask, currently at 42 volumes (actually, last I heard, 43-51 hasn't been compiled yet) and ongoing ever since 1976(32 years old).

I'm not really an expert, but I read (and heard somewhere else on this forum) that Doraemon has been running for 40 plus years now. Thats gotta be pretty high on the list.

Doraemon's manga release ended pretty long ago. Its franchise however, has not ended, like earlier this year in March, and new Doraemon movie was aired in Japan.

Apparently, the longest manga title is "Kochira Katsushika-ku Kameari Kouen-mae Hashutsujo", with (currently) 158 volumes.

Dammit...that question was asked at the shoujo panel at last year's Tekkoshocon and I can NOT for the life of me remember the answer. It wasn't Glass Mask though. It was some badly drawn thing.

.......I can't stand Chibi Maruko-chan...when I saw it five years ago in Japan I was like "What is THIS thing!?" A three-year-old could make a better show...geeze.

At this rate, Possibly One Piece (though DBZ was quite long. Can't quite rememebr the episode count though), especially if they drag out fights like the Luffy vs Rob Lucci fight... the fight alone went on for, what, 5 episodes? >_>

No, the longest is, as already mentioned, Sazae-san. With ~3000 episodes. Running since 1969. The second longest is Nintama Rantarou with ~2500 episodes, running only since 1993. But each episode is only 10min long, so there's that.

Doraemon has three seasons of anime. The first from 1973 with 26 episodes got burned, though, because it was such a disaster. Not sure if it should be counted if it was destroyed. The second season from 1979 had 1787 episodes and the third season from 2005 is still ongoing with ~600 episodes.

For manga it was also already mentioned which the longest is: Golgo 13 with ~200 volumes running since 1968.
The Kochira one also has 200 volumes, but is already finished.

Unfortunately only a fraction of Golgo 13 got translated. Thirteen volumes containing a selection of chapters from among all the years, to be exact. A real shame, for this is an incredible manga that I'd wish to read more of. Stumbled upon it because of the 2008 TV series, which was really good, too. It's also famous for it's 1983 movie featuring what is arguably the worst CGI ever put into anime. Other than that scene, the movie is pretty good, though.
