Young Aria's status in society skyrockets after her courtesan mother marries into the wealthy Roscent count family. Due to her ignorance, she falls to her stepsister Mielle's schemes to ruin her, and is thus executed. Right before she dies, she sees an hourglass fall by, suddenly returning her to the past.

To face Mielle and exact revenge on her, she must become an even more wicked, scheming villainess to destroy Mielle and the Roscents, who caused the deaths of her and her mother.

Very scheming and petty, she doesn't even really love the 1st guy. Although she did fall for the 2nd eventually.

In fact I notice Korean shoujo MCs can be far more ruthless/cunning/sassy then their Japanese versions.
(Chinese ones are on par, sometimes exceed, the Koreans in cruelty.)

I read the manga, but she's so petty that I can't get excited about it. I even ended up feeling sorry for Miele because we have only the MC's word for it that Miele was all that bad.

Mielle's evil ruthlessness will be seen later on. But yes, the initial story comes of as rather one sided at first.

I think Mielle became evil because of the country's noble society and upbringing. Their nobles are generally corrupt and self-serving, plus their faction controls the nation' royals. This has led to a form of class arrogance, where they think they're above the law since they control the government.

Plus, there's disdain for Aria because of her commoner/prostitute origins. To see her gaining an advantage over the established nobles is unacceptable and to be destroyed.

Story never really stated why Mielle became evil, but it is implied she just grew up like that. Plus the influence of the noble faction's leader; Mielle is their direct follower.

Otherwise you'll have to ask the author,they wrote the story that way.

I read the novel, and she is pure evil and Aria was right to continue her crusade to kill her. Mielle is always the one who "attack" Aria and Aria is simply retaliate with a stronger force.

It is a good manga and novel. It so nice I almost finished it now and I just found it a few days ago.
