Yeah they did kind of screw up in this area in my opinion. Getting the timing right is difficult. Do they plan all episodes out before they start airing, or do they plan each episode out individually? Because it seriously feels like they planned it ep by ep and arc by arc without any concern for how much time they'll have for the next one.

Wow, I didn't think we'd actually get a proper beach episode of all things! Raphtalia in a swimsuit .

Actually kind of surprised swimsuits exist in this setting to be honest .

We haven't really seen much beyond Melomarc, but the setting is really one big mishmash of different settings and sensibilities. Like I'm pretty sure I've seen GUNports on that ship and there is (we should have seen it) an industrial nation.

FWIW, it's planned long in advance -- when you see the job "Series Composition" in the credits, that's the person who's responsible for mapping out all the content to the episode allocation. Based on that high-level planning, each episode gets its own writer, director, etc. for the content planned for that particular episode (sometimes the same staff work on multiple episodes over the course of a show, obviously). This is the only way it's possible to get things done due to the amount of work done in parallel over multiple months.

i thought it probably was, it's just some shows like this come around that make me wonder.

So, basically, "Series Composition" is the anime equivalent of the Story Editors for Western Animation.

Looks like a fierce fight between Naofumi and Glass .

Also looks like he's refraining from using the Rage Shield...or they don't want to spoil what he does with it .

The existence of a relatively industrial nation would also add an interesting wrinkle to the political side of things, depending on how closely they guard their advances.

On another note, I was amused to find someone who was not only disappointed by Malty being, in their words, a low-effort (on the writers' part) villain, and decided to see if they could do better. Their ponderings on the matter gave rise to this one-off and its spiritual successor.

Eh. The Shield Hero tries to pretend that everything is REAL and operates on actual logic rather game logic. And yet their world clearly mirrors in many most ways the gameworlds which were made for gaming purposes other Heroes are familiar with. So the reason there is an Industrial nation yet others are renesance minus guns is probably becuase the art and design team wanted a nation with factories and bit of steampunk. Why don't others use the firearms? No reason at all, other than the game world is made to allow for a world where a gunman and an archer are probably equal.
