Does anyone here know of stories that may have a group of youngsters suddenly discovering or being told they have special powers or superpowers and end up being trained/raised by a mentor figure to face evil/demonic entities and such?

I'd like to see something like that too. You'd get a few with magical girl series, like Vividred Operation where a group of girls are given powers and have to fight invading monsters or Twintail where a guy, his childhood friend and the SCP all gain the ability to tap into their twintail power to turn into a sentai-like trio and fight monsters that eat fetishes. If you haven't seen it, yes it's just as weird as it sounds. It's also really cool.

I'll have to look through the Shounen area, as I'm sure there are series like this out there. Most of the time though, it seems to be just one or two heroes gain power and everyone else already had it. For instance, in Tokyo Underground the hero Rumina and his friend Ginnosuke (AKA Four-Eyes) are completely powerless, but the girl who comes up from underground and her bodyguard possess immense elemental powers, as do all the people who come after them, ally with them, or both in some order. Rumina gains Wind power, a previously unheard-of power, after he's stabbed and the girl from underground uses her Life power to revive him. Four-Eyes later discovers an Elemental gun that allows him to send blasts of elemental force at people. Aside from this pair though, everyone's already powerful. They do have a training session with a dirty old man though.

Not quite there yet, but seems to be a bit along the lines of what I was looking for.
It's funny that it's another Kawahara work, I quite like SAO & AW

The clicker here is the mentor figure. I always come up short when I try to think of one.
