Novel 'Oshie to Tabi suru Otoko' gets anime adaptation.

Plot Summary:

The narrator meets a matured man with glasses, who has an illustration of an old man wearing suit and a young lady wearing kimono. He then starts to talk about the story of the illustration, which happened around 35 years ago when his older brother was 25 years old. He too, wore glasses, went to Asakusa Twelfth Floor (now Ryouunkaku), and met a lady who he had a crush. The lady turned out to be Oshie, which is a classic 3D art made out of cloth and Japanese traditional paper. The matured man then told the narrator about his imagination on how he would take his brother and the lady (the couple) to wherever, though the lady doesn’t age while his brother did. He got embarrassed talking about it and said he would get the illustration a rest. When he got the illustration into the futon, it seemed like the narrator saw the lady move as if she smiled and greeted to him.

I tried to read this three times and my eyes kept glazing over, so see below for a hopefully slightly more coherent plot summary, based on the summary for Edogawa Ranpo's 'Oshie to tabisuru otoko' which this is an adaptation of.

Riding on a train on his way home from Uozumachi, the narrator meets a stranger, an older man of indeterminable age who looks like an old-fashioned gentleman. He's staring at an oshie art of an old man in Western clothes and a girl wearing a kimono: his older brother and the girl his brother loved. The art is so wonderfully vivid, the characters seem to be alive. Eventually, the stranger starts telling the narrator about their story, which began 35 years ago.

The older brother will be played by Hosoya Yoshimasa, and the younger by Kaji Yuuki.


(By the way, I'm not sure this is going to be a TV series? At least so far I don't see TV being mentioned.)

^Yep, apparently this is going to be screened in three museums, in Aomori, Shizuoka and Shimane, from mid-summer to winter.
Too bad, the PV looked pretty nice, and I would have loved to hear Hosoya and Kaji playing together again, especially as brothers.
