Judging from the first 50 pages of .Hack//another rebirth, the story is told from Black Rose point of view, which starts off with her reason as to why she decided to play "the World" and her first encounter with Kite.

I think that should answer your question.

Well you see, I've never read or watched any .hack series, I've just started watching .hack//Roots, so do I need to read or watch any previous .hack series to understand the story of this manga? Thanks

Ummm... it's actually a novel. And it's based on the games too, so get it if you've never played them. I might pick it up myself maybe.


The games were the central part of the first .hack series, so you should be fine reading it w/o any previous knowledge of the series.
