We're talking about the "character" here "Misaka Mikoto", she became popular not just because of the light novel itself, admit or deny it she became popular because of her over exposure in several media. Both the LN, Manga, and the series itself.

And I think it's blasphemy thinking that Misaka Mikoto was voted and known just because of the light novel "itself".

Back to the characters topic. Do you think that Sena is out of list because
Spoiler:
In 2011 she was 4th, in 2012 third, 2013 fifth. It's really strange that she that in this year she din't even get to top 30.

Well, it's always difficult to dissociate popularity from quality in votes anyway. For one, they can only vote for titles that they read so a title which isn't selling a lot has far less chance to receive vote. There are other even more problematic reasons but let's change the subject x].

But at the very least, those rankings are wished by they creators to be as the tittle said, IE, not "what do you like", but "what title impressed you the most/is the most awesome", on this I completely agree.
And I wish that voters had more that in mind when voting,as the rankings would be even more interesting.
Well, the LN industry side is trying hard to balance out the popularity votes with more "appropriate" votes and that's why this ranking is more interesting than a simple popularity ranking for me.

Now waiting for the complete numbers, as without them it's difficult to see clearly in those rankings. I suppose we won't get them before the official release though.
Forgetting to use emoticons and trying to post quickly in order to rush to do something else are 2 other mistakes I made (frequently)

Yes, I really want to see the scoring system for this year and the sample sizes they got as compared to last year. Hope somebody else will post it (and not me hopefully ).

I didn't think SAO would have that much lower votes from the readers than Yahari and Index, nearly half of them... Of course, doesn't compare when Index have 0 from the collab but still manage to get some points from the monitors

Although it seems that Tokyo Raven didn't get a rise in fanbase as people thought, seeing as how it's the scores from the collab that brought it up.

Basically,

HP = Readers, or general public

Monitors are a third party group that erm... I suppose they're told to read everything ?

Blasphemy indeed. I thought Kagerou would score better with the public at least?

SAO and Oreimo higher than it? Well, there's good reason I don't put any stock in rankings anyway

Open to public voting like what C2F said.

And no. Monitors are a target demographic group of adolescents (age 13-18 or 13-21 I can't remember) who have read 51 or more light novels in a year. A 3rd party company is contracted to find this group IIRC.

Also why do Index and Kagepro have 0 for collab?

Explains why Monitor scores are so....otaku-herd like then

What does collab mean? Or who are they? Index didn't get a vote from it.

Well, many reasons.
It could be that Kagepro fans don't really care about Konorano.
Could explain Mahouka's low HP numbers as well, since it doesn't match up, which makes some sense since I heard that Mahouka also have the support of the non-Otaku community (though I wonder how they could stand the brocon-siscon).
Another reason could be that 5 other works have grabbed the voters' attention more since they have only 5 votes each.

Since each person has only 5 votes, it just means that all 61 collaborators prefer to give their votes to 5 other titles other than Index and Kagepro. And some of them might not even have read the books.

SAO dropped it's HP votes by nearly half of last year's, same with their collab.

Index had an increased in HP, a drop to 0 by the collab, but maintains with the Monitors.

Lots of ranking changes from last year though.

Critics, generally speaking.

Consisting of other people working in the industry.

In a way, but more accurately, Collabs are made up of so-called 'professionals' in industry. Editors, other writers, people who work in publishing companies, bookstore owners/workers, university interest groups, etc.

In other words, "Collab" is the most important column among the three for anyone more interested in quality than popularity as this is the one less affected by sheer popularity. :3
Why Index have a "0" by "collab", eh? Do we really need to explain why?

Actually, I'm more shocked that there are still some of those voters who spent one of their precious 5 votes to titles like SAO or oreimo, titles that definitely doesn't need help from them to rank.

Thanks for the numbers laretian( yet you were saying that you hoped someone else would post them ). Do you happen to have a link toward the whole list with numbers maybe?

Rokka no Yuusha have almost the same numbers in everything ( with a small increase in Monitor votes); yet it dropped 5 places; so I would guess that the total voters this years his higher than last year?

12.91 106.52 *2.00 (2012)
11.25 104.84 16.00 (2013)
Looks like it's still supported by the voters from the industry. Thanks you, guys.

Well Collabs are there to balance out the votes with the public, so it stands to reason that like what you've suggested they might not think that they would need to vote for popular series... Which is true judging by the results.

But comparing the results from last year, they seem to be on overdrive by putting so many 100+ points series in the top ten. Last year it was only Rokka, this year more than half the titles were put there by them.

Then I'm fine with sao and index having 0 and low score on it. Kinda speak some truth to it. Though it could also mean the its already popular so no need to even vote for it.

I'm happy for hachiman and yukinon for winning. And oregairu for ranking 1.
