I think both of their views of each other are based on the relationship they had when Rudy was young. She did a lot for Rudy, but at the very least, Rudy has grown quite a bit since then. It's very possible that he could find the person he idolized to be more down-to-earth and relatable than he thought, especially considering Roxy harbors a lot of insecurities, and that could open the door to him having feelings for her, even unexpectedly/unintentionally. This is basically what happened with Sylphie.

Barring Rudy is an otaku from the last generation (his reference is centered around the 90's the age of deconstructions of heroes and anime as the book was written over a dacage ago) the world doesn't work that way. He isn't the be all OP MC that later isekai's have. And what fate is he to fight against all we know about is what a very sketchy "god" told him.

I remember that he was pining for her at the beginning of the series, and she said for him to wait 10 years or so. It might have been puppy love then, but it is with full hormones now, so it could trigger something else. For most series that deals with teleportation magic, the castor has to have been to the location first before he can teleport to that location. Where Rudy is going now is somewhere he has never been to before; hence, I don't think teleportation magic will help him in this case. However, after traveling all over the place like he has been and is going to do, I do believe that acquiring teleportation magic will be very useful at that point. They can skip right to destination instead of doing travel stories, kind of like what Weiss and Benioff did with Game of Thrones.
