I never expect them to. It's not that popular (yet?) in North America, but one of the reasons why
Love Live is a huge success in Japan and some other East Asian countries is because it panders to many types of people. If you like yuri, there's plenty of teasing in that regard. If you're into het or waifu-claiming, check out
Snow Halation. There's also a significant teen girl fanbase for
Love Live from what I've heard, and I can understand how it can appeal to such an audience.
This multi-demographic appeal can be compared to
K-ON's. In fact I doubt that we'd see this franchise in the same form today if it weren't for
K-ON's success and influence.
Also, it's nice to see that the subgroups are indeed confirmed for S2.
