As mentioned, it struck mid-western North America, but most likely that is where the Delaz Fleet planned to drop it all along. The Federation merely looked at the "worst-case scenario" which was the colony hitting Jaburo and they focused all their attention and effort on that.
Gato merely programmed in the final coordinates, which gave it a more precise drop location. Where exactly that was is unknown.
