Gassing and nuking colonies where civilians lived because they were following the Earth Federation isn't exactly justifiable. It's like saying that 9/11 was justifiable because the US supports Saudi Arabia and Osama bin Laden wants the fascists there overthrown, which of course is a ridiculous statement to make.

The Titans, on the other hand, only made such acts to instill fear in the people and maintain an iron grip over everybody else and nothing else while under the guise of "maintaining peace".

I sort of relate the Titans to the Galactic Empire of Star Wars during the times of Episodes IV, V and VI, lol.
Faulty comparison. The Emperor closed down the Senate and granted his military commanders full provincial governmental rights, the EA bureucracy and government is still an independent entity at the height of the Titans' atrocities. A better comparison would be to compare them with the Jedi Knights during the reign of the Republic, a special task force to "preserve the peace" and use "aggressive negotiations", only with plenty of less scruples and with ideological hatred fueling them.
