It is odd he hasn't received the knight training, which involved page boy and castle defense. Having him as the mere observer at the battlefield is still too much for him. At the current pace, it is still too much for him. He is left to stay behind. It is also odd, because his three young retainers accompany his father to war.

At least in the retainers' case Rosell is merely behind the scenes, Rietz already had battle experience, and Charlotte is too much of an asset.
