From what I could research, Asterisk was also more heavily promoted/given preferential treatment by its producer, Aniplex.
24 episodes aired in 2 split cours, Studio A-1 doing the animation (which was excellent), and Swedish DJ Rasmus Farber doing the music. Ironically Asterisk never did get subsequent seasons...
