I peeped the first 3 eps on Netflix while I was at work. I've heard terrible things about the previous adaptation, so I went into this with low expectations. I've never read the original works. Seems okay. The animation leaves a bit to be desired, but the creepiness factor is certainly there. I think its strength is not over-emphasizing its 'twists', or other impactful moments; situations happen in a way that flows at the same pace as the rest of the episode. If the animation had a bit more polish, I think it would have been better, but oh well...
Spoiler for up to ep 3:
Of the first 3, I think I like the 2nd episode about the boy and his sister the best. Had just the right amount of creepiness and the mystery was kept hidden until the very end.
The first one was more comedic than scary; I was amused by the dysfunctional family's antics.
The ice cream one is the weakest link here. But man, that ending definitely hit me D0=.
Hanging Balloon I didn't care too much for story-wise. However I was rooting for Kazuko's dad when he came up with the brilliant idea to cover his neck, only for the noose head to say "f'k" it and crush him by the waist
. Actually, the random guy with the crossbow was funny too, with how he just comes up outta nowhere, sees the situation, and thinks to use it. Kazuko's brother's efforts was also commendable, even though he got GOT in the end.
