This is why I hope on some confirmation regarding the canon status of the manga. It really feels much more complete. It connects the story to other works of Geass. It expands a lot more on the state of the world, and the reason behind Lelouch's resurrection (or what it's been hinted so far, since unlike the move, it seems C.C. didn't have a hand in it) works a lot better.
That being said, no matter how big Geass may have been, I don't think it ever did particularly well in the manga department.

The reason for that is because the manga is an adaption of the show instead of the other way around. Had Code Geass started out as a manga before the TV show, the series might had turned out better than it did in its initial TV series run.
