What do you think "people of the land" means exactly? It is just a term to identify the NPC, that means the nobles of Wastelande are also "people of the land" and so is Raynesia and the Eastal League.
What could happen is that the current relations between Akiba and Eastal will sour, because one of the prominent figures of the former has allied with Wastelande which is enemy of Eastal.
