In a narrative-based series like Log Horizon, pacing is everything. If the scriptwriters and director don't grasp that, then they're not doing their jobs properly.

If someone introduced to LH through the anime gets turned off from the series because of a poor adaption, they're usually not going to think "Oh, let me see if this is an adaption of another material and see if the original was better." They're going to think, "This series is terrible, I'm not going to waste my time on it anymore."

S2 already lost a portion of the fanbase when it ended up being a rather lacking adaption compared to S1 and made some questionable story decisions. Luckily, Mamare is a bit of a repetitive writer so important plot points that were cut out in S2 can still be made up for in S3 with little trouble (I hope), but the handling of S2 doesn't exactly inspire a lot of confidence.
