From what I read, it's an alternate telling of Re: Zero where Subaru's memories were taken by an unknown entity, all he knows is his own name. Helping Subaru get them back is a mysterious elf girl named Shion, who has the ability to allow one to relive their memories.
The game's story is filled with "What If" scenarios, where Subaru can befriend characters at a different time than in the original story, leading to different outcomes.
