Spoiler for difference between the manga and the anime:

I said earlier I had forgotten about Historia accessing Ymir's memories, and there was a good reason for it: that never happened in the manga. In the manga, Ymir wrote her entire story down in the letter and Historia simply read it. It's only at this point that we found out about Ymir's backstory, the anime moved it ahead for some reason and provided additional hints to anime viewers in the process.

The last shot showing Ymir in chains wasn't in the manga either.
