Well, currently there are many stories/series which follow that kind of plot, so it doesn't feel that surprising.
But this series is actually old (atleast currently 6+ years old now), considering the Web Novel started in 2012, and during that time there
weren't that many stories/series which showcased a 'Church' being evil and controlled by power hungry and backstabbing people (there were some, but not as many as we have seen in the last 2-3 years).
