I take it the ash did not create 7,500 foot tall piles on the ground but was visible up to 7,500 feet above the ground.

The Shinmoedake volcano might be recognizable for spy thriller fans. The 1967 James Bond film “You Only Live Twice” featured the volcano in its climactic scene involving the infiltration of a secret lair concealed deep within.
