Pilgrimage (seichi junrei)
Many religions have certain
pilgrimage that their followers are required to go once in their lifetime. Visiting the Vatican can be awe-inspiring
pilgrimage for certain Catholics, while Muslims must take a Hajj to Mecca at least once in their lifetime.
In otaku lingo, a
pilgrimage means "visiting the real-life location of a certain anime, game, or manga." Some devoted otakus go to lengths of
visiting the actual towns, villages, and locations that were used in anime and games, just for the heck of it. It is quite fun actually. Not only do you do get to see other places, you also get good exercise which some otakus desperately need.
