Wouldn't have linked Boruto to Neji, he's smart (smarter than Naruto at that age) but not thoughtful or analytical, he doesn't use really complex techniques like the 64 point strike but makes shadow clones with huge chaka reserve. Iwabe was easily as arrogant and bitter as Neji, and seems to have got a bit better after the fight, so I'd say Boruto had the Naruto role in this battle. Of course Sasuke's old triple attack came up as well.
