Its a mistake in that Kizumonogatari, one of the "first" novels to read when reading monogatari is now the LAST thing you have to watch if you want to even comprehend what is going on or why it is going on. There's no reason a movie can't have monologues. They did not replace them with anything - you have literally multiple minutes long pointless scenes of characters WALKING in silence now.
The strength and focus of monogatari is its dialogue, words, meaning. Kizumonogatari should be an one-off experimental thing that should not carry through to the rest of the series. Animation quality can, but presentation of material should not. And animation quality is in danger with Extella Zero hogging resources like crazy considering its a fate work. Shaft is not known t o schedule their productions well.
