We have threads for Japanese politics and culture, but none where other news stories about Japan might be posted, so I've started this thread for that purpose.
I begin with this video from the NY Times showing the eruption of the Sakurajima volcano on Kyushu.

The Times notes the volcano is just thirty miles from a nuclear power plant, but the volcano is on an island, and the plant on the
opposite side of the adjacent peninsula. It doesn't seem to be much of a threat to the plant. Kagoshima, a city of 600,000 people, is right across the bay from the volcano, though the biggest threat to them is probably wind-blown ash.
