Another thing to remember: the setting of Mahouka is post-WW3. It is highly possible that the geopolitics of the world is different from what we currently knows. So, I don't quite understand why people pointed out that the novel has the right-wing flavor to it; this feels a bit like prejudging the Japan in the Mahouka universe with incomplete information.

Spoiler for LN spoilers: IIRC, during the first GAA invasion 3 years prior to this Scorched Halloween event, the US did nothing to prevent the invasion. This is still excusable (maybe the US forces were unprepared, etc.); what it inexcusable is that there was indication that the US did this to trim Japan's overall magic and magician's strength. There was even a rumor that GAA's Japan invasion was sanctioned, albeit covertly, by the US government. With this information, how do you expect Japan to react to the second invasion?
