They started off with an initial surprise attack that had a burst of success. The problem is they suffered from critical intelligence failures in not recognizing that the Japanese military had units close enough to respond to their attack, nor did they realize specifically
who the civilians were that they were attacking at the presentation center. As a result, the military was nearby to quickly counterattack, and their assault on the presentation stirred up several high-powered members of the Ten Clans and Hundred Families, not to mention the god of destruction who is their own personal nightmare.
