More seriously speaking, if you're willing to write *that* many side stories celebrating one pairing, then... It's a chicken and egg question, really, to decide if it's Kawahara's fantasy or fan shipping. But i'm inclined to point out that throughout every single arc, Asuna is always described as the most beautiful. The prescence of competing haremettes seemed to merely serve to enhance her beauty in contrast to theirs.
