I don't see how it exonerates him of that criticism at all. It wouldn't even if Taurus and Silver were equal partners, which isn't the case.
Tatsuya is still a super-genius who repeatedly revolutionize magic - in his spare time, and as a teenager. Whether you like it or not, and having a supposed partner doesn't change that.
