Tm revolution and Nana Mizuki didn't get on the show because of valvrave's song. They are veterens with consistent and above average sales for anything they release. Due to their long history and their constant relevance, they were invited to perform a song. Most performers on kouhaku are either veterens or big smashing trends.
Linked horizon got on kouhaku because attack on titan was a completely big and smashing trend (along with kyary). The AOT song sold more than 260k copies in its lifetime which is a big achievement for a single not by an idol group. ItIt also made a smash on the digital charts which is important
