True... I think Kamachi didn't know how it worked yet.
We can also say maybe that Touma had never used it before on magic at that point... so he wanted to be sure it would work by doing this.
What you say makes me wonder though.
Maybe if it's a special material it would work. In WWIII he would have frozen otherwise, so I understand
