Well... "terrified" probably makes it sound a bit more serious than it is (in that you can it's played for laughs here).
She's supposed to be androphobic, and that worked for her as a teacher up to now given that she worked at an all-girls private school. But yes, it's to help emphasize that this school "isn't a place for boys" (per Airi).
